As we are being told to stay at home and not venture out, I was sitting on my back porch this weekend contemplating all that was happening. I was pleasantly distracted watching my dogs run around the yard sniffing out the squirrel trails and searching for their arch nemesis the squirrel. Then I began to notice all the different kinds of birds that were eating out of our bird feeders and listening to them with their sweet voices.
While watching all that was going on around me, it dawned on me the animals were living in the moment. They were completely unaware of the COVID-19 crises all around them. They were just focusing on what dogs and birds do, enjoy life. They don't worry about social distancing or being exposed to a virus as they are going about life.
Seeing this brought to my mind the scripture passage found in Matthew 6:25 - 34, "“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? 27 Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. 30 If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you—you of little faith? 31 So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God,o and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. 34 Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." CSB
We can be overwhelmed by life and the worries all around us, but sometimes I think we need to be more like my dogs. They live life knowing that their owner, me, will protect them, feed them, take care of them, and love them. God is here for us to protect us, feed us, take care of us, and love us. Sure, we are going to worry because we are human. That's okay, but don't forget that we have a God who is here with us and He knows our every need, even the need for peace. Remember, Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
Keep praying and He will give you peace through these hard times! God bless y'all!
